Climate Champions: empowering youth in Malawi for climate change adaptation
Malawi is expected to suffer severely from climate change due to a strong dependency on agriculture and a limited resilience. Within the population, youth and especially young girls and women, will be affected more due to unequal access to education and jobs, division of household chores,... The Climate Champions project aims to target this group in Malawi, by educating them about climate change and potential ways of adaptation while taking into account gender equality.
Nazka is developing the Climate Champions application. By offering the Malawian youth a user-friendly way to access basic knowledge about climate change, detailed climate data and risks for their area, and a way to share successful adaptation stories on a map, Plan International Malawi will use this new tool to support the training of this vulnerable group.
With Climate Champions we contribute to important SDG goals: education, gender equality, climate action, life on land and partnerships for sustainable development. This project is a cooperation with ClimateScale (climate data expert) and Plan Internation Belgium and Malawi (NGO), funded by the Flanders International Climate Action Programme.
